Supporters of President Donald Trump breached the US Capitol on Wednesday, engulfing the nations capital in chaos after Trump urged his supporters to fight against the ceremonial counting of the electoral votes that will confirm President-elect Joe Bidens win.

A woman was shot and killed during the assault on the Capitol, according to Washington, D.C., police. Her identity was not made public, and it was not clear who might be responsible.

Shortly after 1 p.m. ET Wednesday hundreds of pro-Trump protesters pushed through barriers set up along the perimeter of the Capitol, where they tussled with officers in full riot gear, some calling the officers "traitors" for doing their jobs.

About 90 minutes later, police said demonstrators got into the building and the doors to the House and Senate were being locked. Shortly after, the House floor was evacuated by police. Vice President Mike Pence was also evacuated, where he was to perform his role in the counting of electoral votes.

olent protesters were seen smashing windows and occupying the House and Senate floors and various offices. Police were seen with guns drawn in the House chamber, pointing their firearms at windows that were smashed.

Some of the protesters who stormed the Capitol on Wednesday came in costume — dressed like Vikings, pioneers or soldiers in camouflage. Many had faces painted with American flags and others carried elaborate signs.

It took until roughly 5:40 p.m. ET for the building to once again be secured, according to the sergeant-at-arms.

Bowser imposed a citywide curfew as a chaotic scene worsened at the US Capitol building. From 6 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday, Bowser said no one other than essential personnel would be allowed outdoors in the city.

“What happened here today was an insurrection, incited by the president of the United States,” Senator Mitt Romney said in a statement.

We will never give up, we will never concede. Our country has had enough. We will not take it anymore.

The stunning display of insurrection was the first time the US Capitol had been overrun since the British attacked and burned the building in August of 1814, during the War of 1812, according to Samuel Holliday, director of scholarship and operations with the US Capitol Historical Society.

但在這段一分鐘的視頻里,他花了更多時間對自己選舉失利繼續(xù)抱怨和撒謊(lamenting and lying about his election loss)。

Its a very tough period of time. Theres never been a time like this, where such a thing happened, where they could take it away from all of us. From me, from you, from our country. This was a fraudulent election, but we can’t play into the hands of these people.

Trump struck a sympathetic tone to the rioters saying, "I know your pain, I know youre hurt. We had an election that was stolen from us. It was a landslide election and everyone knows it. Especially the other side. But you have to go home now. We have to have peace."

In one stunning line, Trump told the mob to "go home," but added, "We love you. You are very special."
